Homegrown Customs (formerly Homegrown Dog Gear) operates as part of a show dog kennel, Homegrown Amstaffs.

It is owned by Amy Watson, an American Staffordshire Terrier enthusiast, dog sports junkie, dog advocate, and dedicated crafter of all things Biothane.

Homegrown Customs specializes in braided Biothane products that are offered in many unique designs.  We pride ourselves on craftsmanship and using quality materials for a long lasting product.

A Story of Bio-things

In February 2021, I (Amy) decided to buy some Biothane dog gear. I specifically wanted something that was not only beautiful but also with the craftsmanship and design that would hold up to my strong American Staffordshire Terriers.

After not finding anything that exactly suited my needs, I decided to take a DIY approach and make that perfect set of gear. Of course, if you know me, you know that idea quickly turned into buying several rolls of Biothane to have plenty of options.

Once I finished my set of gear, I posted on Tiktok, offering to make a few custom items with the goal of using the leftover Biothane and covering the cost of all of the supplies I purchased.

To my surprise, the orders just kept coming in.  I then realized I'd stumbled upon a great  opportunity and in a way, accidently started a business. So, I decided to go with the flow and restock supplies, officially establishing Homegrown Dog Gear. I set up a Facebook page, Etsy shop, and continued to post on Tiktok about dog gear. The next few months were spent creating new designs and filling a consistently growing amount of orders.

At the beginning of October, I posted a video of a full custom collar I was especially proud of and things took a dramatic turn from there. That video happened to land on a side of Tiktok called Kinktok. After a few hundred thousand views and a few thousand comments, I had a whole group of new friends requesting people collars and many other things.

I immediately decided to embark on this new adventure and expand into making collars and things for people!  After tons of research and planning, the people collar section was launched at the end of October 2021.

In the first 3 months, I made over 100 people collars in addition to my regular volume of dog gear. After so much support from my new friends, I decided it was time to re-brand to a more inclusive name and launch my own website.

So, now I am the maker of all things Biothane, or as I like to call it, the maker of Bio-things. I owe one of my new friends a special thanks for coming up with that one because every time I see it, I think about how awesome my new friends are and how much my life changed as a result of that one post on Tiktok.

Now, with any luck, there will be many more adventures to add to this story over time.
